Partner Directly with Your Doctor at Balance Integrated Health.

Hello! I’m Dr. Melinda Marzolf.

Dr. Marzolf Montrose

As your physician, my primary goal is to help you live a fuller and healthier life. I'm not here to dictate what you should do. You know yourself better than anyone! I'm here to get to know you and work with you to determine the best ways to manage your health. I want you to feel at ease being your full, authentic self, and I promise to do the same. I enjoy laughter and bring my unique, quirky self to every interaction. I want you to look forward to our visits! I also understand that medical issues can be stressful, and I promise to give you ample time and space to address serious concerns. As health partners, we'll find ways to improve your life in a non-judgmental, calming environment where you can be yourself. My patients can attest that there will often be laughter, sometimes dancing, but always a warm, supportive environment where you feel cared for and accepted.

I have been a primary care physician for over a decade, caring for patients of all ages. My approach emphasizes a patient-physician partnership, where I can get to know you and understand your values, beliefs, and preferences. My focus is to talk about your goals and what truly matters to you! I transitioned to direct primary care (DPC) to spend more time with my patients and offer a truly personalized approach to primary care. With Lifestyle and Functional Medicine training, I integrate non-traditional and holistic methods with traditional medicine to help you stay healthy. Working in DPC gives me time to process what you are going through and find ways to help you feel better and find balance. If you'd like to get to know me before joining, schedule a free meet and greet. I'd love to get to know you and share a few laughs along the way!

Lifestyle Medicine

What is Lifestyle Medicine?

Lifestyle Medicine is a medical specialty that uses evidence-based lifestyle interventions to help prevent, manage, and reverse chronic conditions. Six pillars are used for interventions: Diet, Exercise, Sleep, Stress Management, Connection, and Avoidance of Risky Behaviors.

Why is it important?

Ninety percent of chronic diseases are a direct result of lifestyle choices. This means that our day-to-day decisions have a significant impact on our overall health. The potential for positive change through lifestyle interventions is immense — they can reverse diseases like diabetes, improve quality of life and longevity, treat depression, and even alter our epigenetics. This should inspire and motivate us to make healthier choices.

Why did I decide to pursue board certification in Lifestyle Medicine?

In my own life, I experienced how my choices (a stressful career, the abundance of convenience foods, poor sleep habits) were leading me toward a dangerous path for my health. As I began to make changes, I realized it was an area I had previously overlooked during patient interactions.

Beyond the simple advice of “eat less, move more,” I didn’t know how to guide patients, and I didn’t believe I could make a difference.  However, as I delved into the research and coursework for the board certification program, I realized I couldn’t afford NOT to do it! This new knowledge became a catalyst for me to practice medicine in a new light. I am inspired by how it empowers my patients to take control of their health and not settle for a lifetime of medication dependence.

Functional Medicine

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine is a comprehensive approach to medical care that examines the root cause of disease and helps restore the body to optimal health. It is a patient-centered approach that considers the biochemistry, genetics, and lifestyle of a specific patient to develop a personalized care plan.

Why did I decide to pursue training in Functional Medicine?

I have been curious about Functional Medicine for several years and wondered if it could help my patients. Many times, patients come to see me, but conventional medicine is unable to diagnose or find a fix. Functional medicine provides a different perspective and set of tools to help find solutions for symptoms like fatigue, mood changes, weight gain, joint pain, and autoimmune conditions. It also leads to a specific plan that works for a patient’s unique biochemistry and genetics. I always focus on using food and supplements to help replace deficiencies and help regulate these systems to find that balance of excellent health!

Osteopathic Medicine

Why I love Osteopathic Medicine

Osteopathic Medicine has become part of the traditional medical landscape, but they are different! Its philosophy centers around the belief that the body can heal itself. As physicians, our job is to help those systems. Osteopathic physicians look at structure and function; we can use manipulation to help stimulate the lymphatic and autonomic systems and restore normal function.

While in medical school, I completed an additional research and teaching fellowship in manipulation to explore these areas. My focus was on using indirect techniques to help balance these complex systems. I will use these techniques to help stimulate the immune system to fight viral infections, help with lymphatic flow to reduce inflammation in chronic diseases, and help relieve pain.
